Stevia is derived from a natural product called stevia, and many people who are first introduced to Stevia ask, is stevia a type of chrysanthemum?

Stevia belongs to the Compositae family and is native to South America, where stevia is also known as "honey leaf," "sweet leaf," or "sweet grass." Stevia, is a treasure trove of alternatives to synthetic sweeteners.

Stevia's History of the World

16th century

Guarani Indians call stevia "Ka-a He-e", which means "sweet grass", and use it to taste bitter drinks such as Mate tea.

In 1901

Bertoni writes that a few pieces of stevia are enough to sweeten a large cup of tea.

In 1920

Stevia began to grow in large numbers on plantations in Brazil and Paraguay.

In 1931

French chemists isolated glycosides to provide the sweet taste of stevia. The compound is named stevia side. During World War II, stevia began to be actively consumed in the UK due to a sugar shortage and rationing of consumption.

In the 1970s

Stevia has been introduced to countries such as China, South Korea and Japan, and studies have begun to assess its potential for beneficial effects on human health. Since then, stevia has been widely used, and China is now the largest producer and exporter of stevia.

In 2013

The Coca-Cola Company began producing zero-sugar drinks with stevia and 30 percent fewer calories. These drinks are now sold in many countries around the world.

This year Zevia, a stevia-based sparkling drink that has been a hit for Amazon, launched in the United States.

Stevia has undergone three iterations of updating up to now, and has been improved in the exploration of ingredients, extraction process and taste. In the next phase, we will explore the three iterations of updating stevia.
